An iconic London landmark, Crystal Palace is a place and former site of the palace. Located in between the London Boroughs of Croydon, Bromley, Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, the town has a population of about 29,000 people.

There is a large television mast in Crystal Palace, a large aerial that carries television and radio signals to London for use by television and radio viewers. Crystal Palace also received the Croydon transmitter, in case the Crystal Palace Ariel failed.

More Crystal Palace Facts

It used to be the site of the Crystal Palace, a massive glass building. It was originally at Hyde Park but transferred to Crystal Palace in 1854. It was visited by people for over seven decades. Sydenham Hill, where the Crystal Palace was located, is one of the highest points in London, and the size of the palace allowed it to be seen from Central London. Crystal Palace became the name of this area rather than Sydenham Hill. In 1936, the palace burned down, and the site of the building and its grounds became Crystal Palace Park, complete with an Olympic-sized pool.

The Crystal Palace Park is a large park in Crystal Palace, which is known throughout South London for its dinosaur statues. A national athletics stadium, as well as a large sports complex, are also located here.
There is no town centre in Crystal Palace since most of the area is covered by homes, although some people confuse Upper Norwood town centre (which has a Sainsbury's) with Crystal Palace. Another nearby town is Anerley. On Crystal Palace Parade there is a bus stop, as well as a train station that can transport you to Central London and Croydon.
